Karesuando Vandrarhem
STF Karesuando Vandrarhem is located in Karesuando, Sweden's northernmost urban settlement, right on the Muonio River forming the natural border with Finland. The hostel occupies a distinctive red building dating from 1915, originally built as a boarding house for underprivileged children. It offers 11 rooms with 26 to 50 beds, including options with private kitchens, family rooms, and self-catering facilities. All rooms have TV and wifi. The surrounding area draws visitors year-round with hiking, canoeing, fishing, hunting, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing. Bicycle and canoe rentals are available on site. The hostel sits within walking distance of a bus stop and marked trails. Midnight sun in summer and northern lights in winter are both genuine draws. The region also carries significant Sami, Swedish, Finnish, and Tornedalian cultural heritage.
