STF Långholmen Vandrarhem Stockholm
STF Långholmen Vandrarhem is a genuinely unusual place to stay, housed in a former prison dating back to 1840 on the small island of Långholmen in central Stockholm. The original cells have been converted into comfortable double and four-bed rooms, some with shared bathrooms. Guests staying in rooms with shared facilities are technically sleeping inside a museum. The hostel offers a guest kitchen, free Wi-Fi, free parking subject to availability, and optional breakfast for an additional fee. A swimming beach sits just outside the entrance, with walking and running paths circling the island. Kayak rental is available in summer. The lively Hornstull neighbourhood on Södermalm, with shops, bars, and metro connections, is a short walk across the bridge. The hostel is part of STF, the Swedish Tourist Association, with discounts available for members.
